How do you describe your style?
My style is timeless, organic, and true to color. The colors represented will be as they are in real life. The art we create will be a combination of posed and candid moments, crisp colors, and hints of golden hues. It’s important for me to catch real emotion, but to also not be in your face. My families tell me they love the variety in their galleries!
I’ve never had my photos taken - I’m nervous! Will you tell me what to do?
You’re my favorite! I love working with families who have never had a professional portrait session, because it is so fun to “wow” you! In all seriousness, don’t stress. I will guide you on how to pose and what to do.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you do donations?
I love being able to give back and do so multiple times a year for organizations and causes that are close to my heart. If you’re interested in a donated service, reach out and let me know. Please note that financially I can’t always take all requests. It never hurts to ask though!
I’m scared my kids won’t cooperate.
Well first of all… who isn’t? I’m glad I’m not the only one! Our family portraits from two years ago have my daughter glaring from behind a plastic baggie of cereal. Let me assure you: kids will be kids. Isn’t that why we want to document this time anyway? Lucky for you, I’m a kid at heart. We’ll race, we’ll play, I’ll sing horribly off-key, and I always have bribes up my sleeve (if it’s okay with you, of course) Don’t worry about the kids not cooperating. When we’re having fun is when we get the best images.
Do you do mini sessions?
I much prefer getting to know you and your family and allowing everyone time to warm up so we can truly capture the best portraits. Plus - who likes being rushed through a session with people waiting for you? In this corner of the internet, we say “no” to stress! I do, however, offer two dates with limited slots for petite sessions during the holiday season for current clients. If you would like more information, please join our mailing list here.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Ah, Missouri weather. Don’t you love it? The day before your session I will touch base with you regarding the forecast. If it’s determined it will be too cold/windy/wet/etc., we will reschedule.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. My business is a registered LLC in the state of Missouri and is covered by liability insurance.
What’s your turnaround time?
All portrait galleries are returned within one week for final image selection. Weddings have a four week turnaround. Sports and teams have a two-week turnaround on print items, dependent on when you place your order. Proofs are ready within one week.
How far in advance should I book?
It depends on the time of year. Spring and Fall are very busy times for me and I usually book out a month or two in advance, if not longer. Weekday bookings are typically more flexible than weekends.
How do payments work?
50% of your session is due at booking with the remaining due 24 hours prior to your session. I offer payment plans as well - just ask! Payment is always done online via a secure site.
What time of the day will our session take place?
Studio sessions are very flexible, although generally I suggest early morning for children or families since that’s when the kiddos are typically the most cooperative. For outdoor sessions, we can be fairly flexible as well - although you’ll notice that most of my work is done anywhere from 2-3 hours before sunset. During that time we have beautiful, clean light. Bonus: the kids are generally not quite ready for bed at that hour, either.
What if I don’t want my images on social media?
Then you’re in the right place. Model Releases are optional for all clients, and all clients have the right to opt-out of social media and marketing use. Your privacy and the security of your images is very important to me.
What do I wear? How do I prepare? What should I do ahead of my session?
Once you book a session, we start preparing! I have created a custom Welcome and Style Guide that covers:
What to wear and how to choose your wardrobe (don’t forget about your client closet options, too!)
Location Options
What to do the day before your session
How to prepare yourself and small children
What to expect during and after your session
And more!
After booking, all clients receive this guide that covers everything! I take pride in making sure all of my clients are 100% prepared for their big day and know exactly what to expect.
Do you photograph anything over than families?
Yes! I photograph children, maternity, newborn, commercial, event, weddings, and sports.
Why are your prices higher/lower than other photographers I have inquired with?
There are a number of talented photographers in our community who all have varying levels of experience, knowledge, and equipment and who provide varying levels of quality and customer service.
On average, I spend 9-12 hours per client planning, preparing, shooting, editing, and delivering the final album.
My clients receive an experience that is custom tailored, stress-free, joyful, and fun. On top of that, they receive portraits that freeze precious moments in time. Their final albums hold images that tell the story of their children and family.
Holy guacamole that’s a lot of info! But I still have questions. What now?
